Summicron-M 35mm f2, the legendary 7-element version. This is the rare limited edition produced to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Ur-Leica, originally created in 1913. The barrel is engraved with the script Leica logo and the dates 1913–1983. Approximately 800 examples of this commemorative version were produced, alongside the matching Leica M4-P Anniversary Edition.
Leitz product code 11310. Serial number 324xxxx, manufactured in Canada in 1982 with a black finish. Although it was released in 1983, production dates from 1982, making it a birth-year Leica for collectors born in either year.
This third-generation Summicron 35mm, featuring a 7-element, 5-group optical design, represents the mature evolution of Leica M wide-angle lenses. Compared with the original 8-element version and the second-generation 6-element version, its exterior is much simpler, but its rendering remains remarkably distinctive. It delivers rich tonal gradation, exceptional resolving power, and beautifully deep, creamy bokeh. Owing to its outstanding out-of-focus rendering, it has even earned the nickname Bokeh King among collectors overseas. Its minimalist, highly functional design is another appealing characteristic. At just 134g measured, it is also delightfully lightweight.
This example comes with the Leica 12524 hood. It is also compatible with classic hoods such as the IROOA, 12585, and 12504.
There are hardly any signs of use, and to the naked eye it has a very strong near-new impression. The exterior condition is outstanding. It should pair beautifully even with a current new Leica body.
Fully overhauled in June 2026. The aperture ring and helicoid now have the excellent feel one would hope for. The seven-element Summicron can often feel rather light, loose, or clicky in a somewhat inexpensive way, but this example has a smooth, well-damped, refined quality. Rangefinder coupling is spot-on.
The glass shows only the slightest coating wear, with no haze or cleaning marks visible. It is exceptionally clean and clear, with excellent clarity.
Comes with the original box and warranty card with matching serial number, a clean 12524 hood, and front and rear caps.
A truly hard-to-find condition!
