Elmarit-R 24mm f/2.8. ROM. Leitz product code 11813. The serial number is in the 2.71 million range, dating it to 1974. The lens construction is 9 elements in 7 groups. It features Leitz’s own floating element mechanism. The filter size is E60.
As this example is from the first year of production, introduced in 1974 for the Leicaflex SL2, it was originally a 2-cam lens, and is thought to have been converted by Leica to a genuine ROM mount after ROM was introduced in 1996.
Compatible with the R series from the SL2 onward, this lens remained in production for many years as something of a hidden classic. With its easy-to-use angle of view, reasonably bright f/2.8 maximum aperture, and close focusing distance of approximately 30cm, it is a highly practical lens. Unlike an ultra-wide-angle lens, distortion is not overly pronounced, allowing for natural-looking wide-angle images.
There are two or three very minor signs of wear, but overall it shows hardly any signs of use and has a very clean exterior.
Fully overhauled in June 2026. Thanks to careful servicing, both the aperture ring and helicoid are smooth, with an excellent operating feel. It has a refined, well-damped feel, far removed from the loose feel often found in R-mount lenses.
The glass has a few very faint cleaning marks and slight coating deterioration on an inner element, but these should have virtually no effect on photographs.
The internal anti-reflection lacquer has also been carefully reapplied, so crisp, well-defined rendering can be expected. The results of our test shoot were also excellent.
Comes with 12523 hood, front and rear caps.
