Macro-Elmar-R 100mm f4, 3-cam version. Leica product code 11232.
This lens was introduced in 1978 in response to long-standing requests from Leica R users for a macro lens with a built-in focusing mechanism. It was based on the Macro-Elmar 100mm f4 introduced in 1968, a lens without its own focusing mechanism that was designed for use with a bellows. This example has a serial number in the 2.92 million range and was made in 1978.
Simple 4 elements in 3 groups construction. On its own, the lens focuses down to 60cm with a maximum reproduction ratio of 1:3. When used with the dedicated 14262 close-up adapter, magnification increases to 1:1.75. Built-in hood. E55 filter thread.
It has an excellent reputation for image quality from close distances all the way to infinity. With its solid all-metal construction, including the built-in hood, it has the substantial feel of a classic German industrial product.
In addition to Leica R cameras, its rendering can also be enjoyed on a wide variety of digital cameras via suitable adapters.

There are a few very minor areas of paint loss from normal use, but for a Leica R lens, many of which have seen heavy use, this example is in very clean condition.
A full overhaul was completed in August 2026. Both the aperture ring and helicoid now operate extremely smoothly.
The glass is clear and bright, with no noticeable scratches or haze. You can expect the lens to deliver its intended performance.
