Macro-Elmarit-R 60mm f2.8. The Leitz product code is 11205 for the lens alone, and 11203 when sold as a set with the adapter. A little confusing, isn’t it?
This is the early version, with a hood-mounting pin at the front of the barrel. Serial number in the 2.82 million range, manufactured in 1977. 3-cam version.
The optical construction is 6 elements in 5 groups. Filter diameter is E60. The compatible hood is 12514. The lens sits deeply recessed within the barrel, making it practical to use even without a hood. It is an excellent lens, offering high resolution, well-balanced rendering, and smooth, cohesive bokeh.
On its own, the lens focuses down to 1:2 magnification. When used with the Macro Adapter-R 14198, it enables life-size 1:1 macro photography. When attaching the adapter, set both the lens and the adapter to the minimum aperture. Then, with the red and green marks at the base of the lens aligned, match the lens-side mark to the position of the lock lever on the adapter side before mounting.
A wonderful lens to enjoy not only with Leica R-series cameras, but also with modern mirrorless cameras.
There is a small scrape-like mark on the front edge of the barrel, with slight loss of black paint. Overall, it shows relatively little signs of use and remains in good cosmetic condition.
Fully overhauled in June 2026. Thanks to careful servicing, the aperture and helicoid operate with wonderfully smooth feel. It is so pleasant that you may find yourself extending the lens for no particular reason.
The front element shows only very slight coating deterioration, visible only when held against a strong LED light. The rear element has one very faint cleaning mark, but these should have virtually no effect on image quality. Our test shots also showed very good results.
The original box for 11203, though not matching in number, 12514 hood, Macro Adapter 14198, plastic case, and front cap are included.
