Leica M4 chrome. Serial number in the 1,180,000 range. Manufactured in 1968/69. Made in Germany. Leitz product code 10400.
Introduced in 1967 as the successor to the Leica M3 and M2, the M4 features a rapid loading system, a rewind crank, and built-in bright-line frames for 35mm, 50mm, 90mm, and 135mm lenses.
The exterior design and functions of the M-series Leica, continuing all the way to the current Leica M-A, largely follow the style established by the M4. It offers a highly refined design and excellent functionality.
The M4 was produced in three finishes: standard chrome, black paint, and black chrome. Various versions exist, including German-made and Canadian-made models, as well as the motor-compatible M4-M.
There is a rather large dent on the top cover near the viewfinder eyepiece. This is a bit of a shame, especially since the rest of the camera is quite clean. There are also light scuffs around the Leica logo, on the baseplate, and around the strap lugs.
All parts remain original, and the entire gutta-percha covering is also original.
All functions work properly. The finder view is clear, and the rangefinder double image has good contrast.
A Leica M4 that is just right for using freely without hesitation.
