Carl Zeiss Planar 50mm f2 for Contarex. Black finish. It was sold from 1958 to 1973. It is said to have been the most produced lens in the Contarex lineup, with 37,768 units supplied. This example is the later version with the Blitz setting, incorporating the flashmatic mechanism introduced from 1965 onward.

It has a 6-element, 4-group construction, with a minimum focusing distance of 38cm. A Planar truly worthy of being the standard lens for the Contarex system, capable of producing beautiful images. Today, it is also an excellent lens to enjoy on mirrorless cameras via an adapter.

There are somewhat many small marks on the knurled section of the bare aluminum helicoid ring, but aside from this, the exterior is in good condition. The black chrome finish also remains well preserved.

All functions operate properly. The helicoid also feels good in operation.

There are many small spot-like areas of coating deterioration and coating roughness on the front element. The glass itself is clear and free from haze. Focus has been checked with an adapter attached. Image quality is good. A great choice for practical use.
