Super Rokkor 50mm f/1.8, made by Chiyoda Kogaku. Leica L mount. Rangefinder-coupled. Introduced in 1958 as the standard lens for the Minolta 35II B, the final model in the Minolta 35 series. Minimum focusing distance is 1m. Actual measured weight is 258g. Filter diameter is 46mm.
A double-Gauss type lens with a 6-element, 4-group construction. It is characterized by a clean, crisp rendering even from wide open. The change in image quality when stopped down is relatively small, giving the lens a consistent and stable character.
The optical design was created by Yoshiya Matsui. In order to overcome coma flare near maximum aperture, which had been considered a weakness of Gauss-type lenses, he developed an original design method in this lens by separating the cemented section of the second group. This is said to have become a standard approach in Gauss-type lens design, which later became mainstream in SLR lenses.
The hood shows considerable signs of use, but the lens body itself is in good cosmetic condition, with only minor paint loss visible. The plating is also in good condition.
All functions work properly. The aperture and helicoid operate smoothly, and rangefinder coupling is spot on. We also tested it on our demo Leica M10-P, and the results were excellent. Sample photos are posted in our sample gallery, and we would be happy if you could take a look.
The glass shows slight coating deterioration on the front and rear elements, as well as a very faint trace of fungus along the edge of the front element, but none of these should affect image quality. There is no haze, and the glass is clear and clean. For a Super Rokkor 50mm, the glass is in very good condition.
Comes with the genuine hood and filter ring.
