Tele-Elmarit 90mm f2.8 with a beautiful chrome finish. A five-element, five-group lens designed by Leitz Canada. Leitz catalog number 11800. Serial number in the 2.14 million range, manufactured in 1965.
Its compact size rivals that of the early Summilux 50mm f1.4. With excellent rendering and handling, it has long been a favorite among our staff. With a maximum aperture of f2.8, it offers more than sufficient brightness, along with superb tonal rendition.
At or near wide open, it delivers a gently soft rendering, while stopping down brings a noticeable increase in contrast, resulting in rich and full-bodied images.
Although the helicoid has a relatively long rotation, it remains easy to operate, allowing for precise and comfortable focusing. This chrome version was produced in smaller numbers and is somewhat scarce.
The finely finished satin chrome barrel, characteristic of Leitz’s postwar golden era, is a joy to admire in itself.
Previously sold by our shop. Carefully used by its owner, it has returned to us after seven years.
There is a minor scuff near the base of the barrel, but otherwise it remains in much the same condition as when last sold, with very little sign of use and a beautifully clean appearance overall.
Fully overhauled in 2019. Thanks to the thorough servicing and regular, proper use since then, both the aperture and helicoid still operate with a smooth, satisfying feel. The glass shows almost no cleaning marks, is free from haze, and remains beautifully clear. Test shots confirm excellent performance.
Rangefinder coupling is spot on, allowing precise focus even wide open. A very pleasing lens to use.
Comes with a period-correct IUFOO hood, UVa filter, and front and rear caps.
