Rolleiflex 3.5F, Type 3, with built-in coupled exposure meter. Serial number in the 2.26 million range, manufactured around 1960–1964. The original focusing screen is a full matte type with grid lines.
As with the 2.8F, the 3.5F was available with either a Planar or Xenotar lens, and both are very highly regarded, making it difficult to choose one over the other. This example is fitted with the Xenotar, said to offer higher contrast and slightly softer bokeh. The 75mm angle of view is also just right.
The higher-end 2.8F is of course a wonderful model, but with more than enough brightness for outdoor shooting and an easy-to-use angle of view, the 3.5F could well be the real favorite for those who truly enjoy taking photographs.
Carefully and meticulously built in the good old days, this 3.5F lets you fully enjoy the superb quality and feel that only a Rolleiflex, one of the finest twin-lens reflex cameras ever made, can offer.
There is some paint loss on the corners of the focusing hood and along the body edges, and the clear cover of the exposure meter shows a few minor scratches. Otherwise, there are no noticeable scratches or dents, and the camera has a clean, attractive appearance.
Fully overhauled in May 2026. The winding crank, one of the key points of Rolleiflex operation, now works beautifully smoothly and lightly. The exposure meter also has sufficient accuracy for practical use.
When held up to a strong LED light, the taking lens shows only the slightest signs of coating deterioration, but this should have virtually no effect on actual photographs. There are no cleaning marks or haze, and no balsam separation, which is sometimes seen on 3.5F Xenotar lenses. The glass is in a condition that lets you enjoy the lens’s original performance.
Comes with diffuser, aftermarket cap, two genuine straps, one period brown leather strap and one later black version, RII hood with case, and body case.
