Summilux-M 50mm f1.4, the final version of the second generation, produced shortly before the introduction of the built-in hood version. Serial number in the 358xxxx range, manufactured in 1992. Leica product code 11114.
The optical design and barrel are the same as the black version of the 2nd generation, but the lettering has been changed to the so-called digital-style font, giving it a more modern appearance. Among Leica enthusiasts in Japan, it might be called the final digital-lettering version of the second-generation Summilux 50mm. Quite a mouthful!
The lens features 7 elements in 5 groups. One of Leica's most versatile and iconic lenses, the Summilux offers a wonderful balance of softness and clarity, producing images with a beautiful sense of depth and dimensionality. Its elegant rendering is reliable even wide open, while its understated appearance and excellent handling make it a popular choice for everyday photography.
Even among second-generation Summilux lenses, some examples of this final version show noticeably sharper rendering near wide open. This particular lens is one of them, delivering excellent sharpness and a strong sense of dimensionality.
The filter size is E43, and the compatible lens hood is the 12586.
The lens is in excellent overall cosmetic condition. There are a few extremely minor spots of paint loss, but the black finish retains its beautiful, almost factory-fresh appearance.
A full overhaul, including focus adjustment, was carried out in September 2026. The aperture ring and helicoid now operate with a superbly balanced amount of torque. They feel so smooth and satisfying that you may find yourself turning them just for the pleasure of it! The rangefinder coupling has also been carefully adjusted and works perfectly.
The glass is beautifully clear and bright, with no haze or cleaning marks. The original coatings remain intact on all surfaces. Actual shooting tests also produced excellent results. Even wide open, the lens delivers excellent sharpness at the plane of focus, wonderful dimensionality, and beautifully rich bokeh.
Comes with a period-correct 12586 hood with digital-style lettering, hood cap, and rear cap.
