Tokyo Kogaku made. Topcor-S 5cm f2 standard lens for Leotax. Leica screw mount. Coupled rangefinder. 6 elements in 4 groups. Filter size is 40.5mm.
The aperture click stops follow the standard sequence of f2, 2.8, and 4, while the scale is marked in one-third increments. Even the infinity lock knob is crafted with great care. There is none of the roughness often associated with Japanese Leica copies. This lens strongly reflects Tokyo Kogaku’s sincerity and precision in manufacturing.
Its rendering also follows that philosophy, delivering a solid image even wide open. The in-focus area is crisp and well-defined, while the out-of-focus background has a slightly rough, textured character, offering the classic charm of a vintage lens.
Originally sold by our shop, this item has returned to us after being carefully used by its previous owner.
The exterior is exceptionally clean, with almost no signs of use, retaining the atmosphere of a brand-new piece from its time. The beauty of the plating and black paint is particularly noteworthy.
It was given a thorough full overhaul by the previous owner, and all operations remain smooth and refined. Rangefinder coupling is spot on. It is rare to find a Topcor finished to this level. There is slight oil seepage on the aperture blades (paid servicing is available upon request).
The optics show one very faint hairline cleaning mark on the front element and a very light trace of fungus on the rear element, but neither should affect actual shooting. Otherwise, the glass is in excellent condition, free from haze and beautifully clear. Test shots have also produced excellent results.
