Elmar 50mm f3.5 in nickel barrel. Leitz product code ELMAR. Serial number in the 130,000 range, manufactured in 1932. The infinity lock knob is the somewhat uncommon flat type known as a bell push. The front element has later coating applied by Leitz, which should prove effective in slightly backlit situations. Distance scale is in meters. Rangefinder coupled. Helicoid number 6. This is a new Elmar from the era of the Leica DII and DIII.
With the same 4 elements in 3 groups construction as the old Elmar, and considering the long history of the Elmar, which remained beloved well into the M-mount era, this lens may be called a new Elmar, but it is still a very early example. A classic Leica standard lens that has crossed borders, transcended eras, and captured countless lives and moments.
Even in today’s digital age, it still has plenty to offer!

This is a piece previously sold by our shop. It was carefully used by its owner, and has now returned to us.
Even considering its age of 94 years, the exterior is in good condition. There is some deterioration to the plating on the name ring, but no distortion is visible.
Fully overhauled in 2024. Thanks to careful servicing, all functions remain very smooth. Rangefinder coupling is spot-on. During the overhaul, the matte anti-reflection lacquer inside the barrel was also carefully repainted, so you can expect crisp, well-controlled rendering.
There are a few extremely shallow cleaning marks on the front element, some deterioration to the coating on the rear side of the front element, and one very small fungus mark on the rear element, but these should have virtually no effect on actual shooting. Otherwise, there are no notable cleaning marks, and the glass is beautifully clear with excellent clarity. The results of our test shoot were also very good.
Comes with third-party front and rear caps.
