Summilux 50mm f1.4, white finish second version. SOOME, later code 11114. Serial number in the 1.94 million range, manufactured in 1962. Among the many Leica lenses, this is one of the most beautifully designed, often referred to as a noble lady.
While it shares the same exterior as the first-generation Summilux, the optical design was quietly updated to the second generation, resulting in improved sharpness especially around wide open apertures. The coating shows a purple tone with a hint of amber. Filter size is E43. Compatible hoods include XOOIM, 12521G, and 12586.
The distinctive softness of the first version has its own charm, but many would favor the second version for its well-balanced rendering with a solid core even at wide open. A versatile lens that invites active use at or near full aperture.
This item was previously sold by our shop and has returned to us. It remains in excellent user condition, just as when it was last sold.
There are minor signs of use such as light scuffs, but no noticeable large scratches or dents.
It was fully overhauled in 2023. The aperture and helicoid rings continue to operate smoothly, the aperture blades are clean, and rangefinder coupling is accurate.
The original coatings remain well preserved on all elements. There are approximately ten small spot-like fungus marks near the edge of the front element that could not be completely removed during cleaning. In addition, a few very faint cleaning marks can be seen on the rear element.
Due to these fungus marks, the price has been set reasonably; however, imaging performance remains very good.
Includes a 12521G hood, hood cap, E43 UVa filter, and rear cap. The UVa filter shows some coating deterioration but remains fully usable. A well-equipped set, ready to shoot.
A practical and appealing Summilux 50mm 2nd, often referred to as the Lady.
