A beautiful set comprising the Alpa 10d, a high-end SLR camera made by Pignons S.A. of Switzerland, paired with the Macro-Switar 50mm f1.8.
The Alpa 10d was introduced in 1968, with a reported production of 2,974 units, yet it is rarely seen on the market. According to the Alpa serial number table, this particular example was manufactured in 1969.
Compared with the previous 9d model, the top plate design was completely renewed. The shutter speed was linked to the TTL meter, and the shutter speed dial was changed to a non-rotating, evenly spaced type, giving the camera a more square and refined design.
A modern body design that skillfully combines curves and straight lines. This example is an export model with a red and gold crest, giving it an even more luxurious appearance. Even the strap attachment is carefully designed, requiring dedicated strap lugs.
The lens is the highly sought-after Macro-Switar 50mm f1.8, a renowned masterpiece. With its superb rendering, beautiful bokeh, and close-focusing capability, it is an even more desirable all-around lens.
The camera and lens are both in exceptionally beautiful cosmetic condition, full of that fresh, as-new atmosphere from its period. It may be almost too beautiful to use. A fine choice for a collection as well.
In May 2026, the lens received a full overhaul by a specialist technician. All controls now operate very smoothly. The camera body is also working well throughout. Unusually for an Alpa 10d, the exposure meter is also functioning, although its response feels somewhat slow.
The set includes a Macro-Switar with a beautiful exterior that perfectly matches the body. There is a very slight trace of balsam separation at the edge of an inner element, but it is extremely minor and should have virtually no effect on actual photographs. There is no haze, and the glass is beautifully clear. Our test shots also showed excellent results. This lens offers a soft rendering, rich color, and beautifully melting bokeh.
When loading the batteries, please insert them in the following order from the back of the battery chamber: spacer → two LR44 batteries, with the positive side facing toward the opening of the battery chamber → handmade aluminum foil spacer. If the order is reversed, the metal fitting attached to the battery cover may interfere with closing the cover, or electrical contact problems may occur.
The set comes with the original front cap, protective filter, dedicated strap fittings, and strap. The combination of the original woven strap and dedicated strap lugs looks extremely stylish and tasteful, but it tends to cause scratches around the strap lug area, so it is not very suitable for practical use. Using an aftermarket strap would be the wiser choice.
