Topcor 35mm f2.8. A Leica screw mount lens made by Tokyo Kogaku. It features a symmetrical 4-group, 6-element optical construction. Released in 1955 as an interchangeable lens for Leotax cameras.
The barrel is made of lightweight aluminum and brass, with an actual measured weight of 154g. Feet scale. Takes 34mm filters.
The white anodized finish gives it a distinctive color and character. Tokyo Kogaku products from this era are extremely well made, with a finish that is a pleasure simply to look at, and this example is no exception.
Although not included with this lens, the dedicated brilliant finder that was sold together with it is said to be the largest finder ever made for a 35mm camera. Since it is a 1:1 finder, you can keep both eyes open while framing, and its humorous appearance has made it popular as a standalone accessory as well. It is also known by the nickname Obake Finder, or ghost finder. Mounted on a camera, it gives a truly unique look.
As with many other lenses, but especially with this one, please be sure to hold the base of the lens barrel firmly when mounting or removing it from the camera, rather than holding the lens head. Holding the head may risk causing distortion or misalignment.

There are some fine scuffs from normal use, but there are no dents or dings, and the barrel is clean and attractive overall.
Fully overhauled in May 2026. Both the aperture ring and helicoid now operate smoothly and comfortably. Rangefinder coupling is spot on, and focus accuracy is also excellent.
The front and rear elements have a few very faint cleaning marks, and there is also slight coating wear, but these should have virtually no effect on actual images. There is no fungus or haze, and the glass is clear and bright.
There is also some edge separation on an internal element, but this too should have almost no effect on actual shooting. The results of our test shoot were very good.
This Topcor renders delicate, fine lines beautifully, while also producing images with a calm, rich, and refined character. Color reproduction is also excellent, and stopping down a little brings a noticeable increase in sharpness, allowing you to enjoy a strong and confident rendering.
