※About rarity

Nikon SP original black paint. Late production in the 6.21 million range, equipped with a titanium curtain shutter. The helicoid distance scale is in meters, though relatively sparse. The self-timer and bottom plate dials are chrome, a mixed specification often seen around this serial range. Judging from the way the paint has worn across the body, it is safe to say this is an original finish from the time.

In the 1960s, this camera was acquired new by a press photographer working for a newspaper agency. After seeing heavy professional use in its early years, it remained with the same owner for decades — a true one-owner piece.
We have seen many well-used black paint SPs, but this may be the most thoroughly used example we have ever encountered.

Due to years of use, almost no black paint remains on the bottom plate. The front surface of the focusing dial — where the middle finger naturally rests, near the Nikon logo on the apron — has developed a gentle depression from long-term use. A black paint SP that truly feels like an extension of the photographer’s body. One can only wonder how many rolls of film were run through this camera to reach such a state. Even so, it is remarkable how the Nikon SP can be restored to full working condition through proper servicing, a testament to its toughness.

The right-side finder features parallax correction and incorporates bright frames for 50, 85, 105, and 135mm lenses along with the rangefinder image. The left-side auxiliary finder covers 28 and 35mm. The colorful bright frames and life-size viewfinder provide an immersive experience, as if your eye becomes one with the finder.

The included Nikkor 28mm is believed to have been paired with the camera since new. Few cameras suit a strap patina as well as this one.
A rare item.

A superbly well-used example. The black paint on the rear of the top cover and the bottom plate has worn away down to the base metal, with the brass taking on a brownish tone. It has a truly authentic presence, with a strikingly rugged character.

There is a minor dent near the ASA dial on the bottom plate. Despite the heavy use, there are no noticeable dents or major impacts elsewhere, suggesting it was handled in a manner typical of a professional photographer.

All functions operate smoothly. As often seen, the auxiliary finder shows slight haze, but it does not affect practical use. Both rangefinder windows are clear with good visibility, and the double image contrast is strong. The main finder is also clear, offering a bright view with solid rangefinder contrast.

The 28mm lens has not been used as heavily as the body, but there is some whitish coating deterioration on the rear element and a few cleaning marks on the inner elements. Please consider it as a bonus.

A Nikon SP Black that truly reflects its professional working history. Enjoy both shooting with it and simply admiring its presence.
