Biotar 75mm f1.5, postwar version, made by Carl Zeiss Jena in Germany. This is the popular compact version with an aluminum barrel and T coating, manufactured around 1949. It features a modified Gauss design with 6 elements in 4 groups. The helicoid distance scale is marked in meters, with a minimum focusing distance of 1m. The lens weighs 399g.

Despite its large aperture and high speed, the center of the image resolves well even wide open, while the swirling bokeh and soft flare deliver a rich, unmistakable vintage-lens character. We highly recommend enjoying this lens on a digital mirrorless camera via an appropriate adapter.

This is an item previously sold by our shop. It was carefully used by its owner and has now returned to us.

The barrel shows some small scratches and minor dings, with general signs of use overall.

A full overhaul was completed in 2025. The aperture ring and helicoid remain smooth in operation, and the aperture blades are also clean.

There are some light cleaning marks on the front and internal elements, but these should have no effect on actual photographs. No haze is present. The results of our test shooting were also good.
