The Summicron is one of Leica’s representative lenses that continues to be produced to this day. It features a modified Gauss design with 6 elements in 7 groups. Designed with an emphasis on contrast, it also delivers improved resolution. A truly renowned classic. Its outstanding resolving power still rivals modern lenses and continues to impress every time it is used.
The first generation, with its high-quality chrome finish and beautiful form, remains highly popular even today. A true Leica standard lens that is as enjoyable to look at as it is to shoot with. It pairs exceptionally well with any M body.
Filter size is E39. Compatible hoods include ITDOO and IROOA.
The silver paint on the helicoid remains well preserved, giving the lens a very clean appearance for an early fixed barrel type. You can truly appreciate the high level of craftsmanship from the period. It would pair beautifully with a clean Leica M3 or M2.
Fully overhauled in April 2026. The aperture and helicoid have been adjusted to an exceptionally smooth operating feel. The anti-reflective lacquer inside the barrel has also been carefully reapplied, promising a more refined rendering. Rangefinder coupling is spot on, and focus accuracy is excellent.
There is some coating deterioration on an inner element that could not be completely removed during servicing, but it is only visible under strong LED light and should have no practical impact on actual shooting. Test results were also very good.
A period-correct set of genuine front and rear caps is included.
