The prestigious Voigtländer 6×9 folding camera, Bessa II. An improved version of the Super Bessa released in 1936, this unit was manufactured in the early 1950s.
The Bessa II came with either the Color-Skopar or the higher-end Color-Heliar lenses, but this one is equipped with the rare top-of-the-line Apo-Lanthar 105mm f4.5. Around the lens barrel, subtle black, green, and red lines are engraved, discreetly indicating its APO lens status.
It is a dedicated 6x9 format camera using 120 film. The focusing dial is marked in meters. Turning the dial moves the entire lens board—a sophisticated mechanism. The shutter speed goes up to 1/500.
From the beautiful chrome finish, the satisfying click when unfolding the bellows, to the smooth movement of the focusing knob, this camera truly reflects the peak craftsmanship of Voigtländer in its prime. It also stands as one of the last great bellows cameras of its era. Weighing only 864g, it is relatively lightweight for a medium format camera and makes for an excellent travel companion.
This Apo-Lanthar-equipped Bessa II is in excellent condition. A superb piece for collectors as well.
Previously sold by our shop. Carefully used by its owner, and now returned to us once again. Welcome back!
The camera remains in the same excellent condition as when it was last sold. The exterior is very clean, with only one or two faint scuffs around the winding dial; otherwise, there are virtually no signs of use.
To ensure optimal performance, focus inspection and adjustment were carried out by a professional technician in April 2026. All functions operate smoothly. The shutter and self-timer work properly, and the rangefinder patch shows strong, clear contrast. The bellows are also in good condition.
As with other folding cameras, slight film movement may occur due to pressure changes when opening and closing the bellows. We recommend advancing the film just before shooting.
The optics show only minimal dust, with no cleaning marks or haze, remaining clear and crisp. You can fully enjoy the characteristic rendering of the Apo-Lanthar.
A well-preserved leather case is included, matching the excellent condition of the camera.
