Late version of the Leica M2 Black Paint. Fully original. Serial number in the 1.13 million range, shipped on August 18, 1965.
An exceptionally beautiful example with remarkably little signs of use. Slight gloss can be seen on areas frequently touched by hand, such as the film advance lever and shutter speed dial, but the rest of the black paint still retains its original matte texture. All parts remain original. A very hard-to-find condition indeed!
Previously sold by our shop. Carefully treasured by its owner, this camera has now returned to us once again. Welcome back!
Just as when we last sold it, this is a truly beautiful Leica M2 Black Paint.
There is slight brass showing on the self-timer, the tip of the advance lever, the strap lugs, and the back door, but the camera is full of the atmosphere of having been lovingly cared for by its past owners.
There are no noticeable marks on the chassis beneath the bottom plate, and the internal plates and spool also remain remarkably clean with very little sign of use, perfectly matching the superb exterior condition.
Interestingly, when we previously sold this M2 BP, it still retained what appeared to be an original L seal, something exceptionally rare, as most L seals are believed to be reproductions.
However, after many decades, haze had developed in the finder and the shutter curtains had also suffered age-related deterioration. For this reason, the camera underwent a full overhaul in April 2026, including replacement of the shutter curtains.
The L seal is now gone, but the finder has regained its crystal-clear view, and the feeling of the shutter and film advance operation has improved dramatically.
The vulcanite covering still retains its sharp, grainy texture, giving a wonderfully satisfying feel in the hand.
The included body cap is a rare blackened brass type. A wonderful piece for any collection!
