Summilux 35mm f1.4, 2nd generation spherical version without the infinity lock. The product code is 11870. Made by Leitz Canada. Serial number in the 2.62 million range, dating from 1973.
One of Leitz’s most iconic high-speed wide-angle lenses, this long-running model remained in production for over 30 years from the original Steel Rim version onward. It features 7 elements in 5 groups and has a minimum focusing distance of approximately 90cm. The matching hood is the two-piece 12504, which accommodates a Series 7 filter between its two sections.
A true Leica 35mm classic and a versatile lens for almost any situation. Near wide open, it produces a soft, gently glowing rendering. Stopping down slightly brings a noticeable increase in depth and three-dimensionality. At smaller apertures, it draws sharp, beautiful lines while retaining a calm and natural atmosphere.
Its rendering is finer and more delicate than that of the Summicron. Combining the character of a classic lens with excellent practicality, it is a highly refined lens that also pairs beautifully with modern digital Leica M cameras.
The exterior is in exceptionally clean condition with no signs of use. Even the front rim, which is particularly prone to marks from attaching and removing the hood, shows no paint loss or scratches.
A full overhaul was completed in July 2026. Thanks to the thorough servicing, both the aperture ring and helicoid operate very smoothly. Rangefinder coupling is spot-on, and focus is accurate.
The front element shows some coating deterioration and a few small fungus traces that could not be completely removed during cleaning, but these are unlikely to affect actual images. No other noticeable cleaning marks are present.
The results of our shooting test were excellent. Please take a look at the sample images in our Photo Gallery.
Included are clean genuine front and rear caps, an exceptionally clean 12504 hood, a genuine Series 7 filter, and the original box with matching serial number.
