Leitz Minolta CL. A compact masterpiece born from the collaboration between Leitz and Minolta. Although it bears the Leitz name, it was manufactured in Minolta’s factory in Japan.
While the camera adopts the Leica M mount, it intentionally departs from traditional Leitz design elements such as the rangefinder base length, vertically traveling shutter, and control layout. Instead, nearly every aspect was newly designed specifically for the CL. Despite this, the result is a remarkably well-thought-out and highly user-friendly camera. Its reputation has continued to rise in recent years.
The accompanying lens is the M-Rokkor 40mm f2. When mounted, both 40mm and 50mm brightline frames are displayed simultaneously in the viewfinder. The lightweight body pairs perfectly with the 40mm field of view, making it an excellent choice as a travel camera.
The CL is often seen well-used, but this example retains a beautiful exterior. There is only minor wear, such as slight paint loss on the edge of the bottom protrusion and light scuffing around the strap lugs. It remains a very pleasant camera to use.
In April 2026, both the body and lens were overhauled by a professional technician. No expense was spared in the servicing, and all operations are now smooth and satisfying. While there are some marks in the finder and slight prism deterioration, the view remains bright and clear. The light meter is also functioning properly.
A common weak point of the Leica CL / Leitz Minolta CL, the take-up spool, shows no cracks on this example.
The Rokkor lens shows very minor coating wear and a faint cleaning mark on the rear element, but these have virtually no effect on image quality.
A collapsible rubber hood and leather case are included, so it is ready to go straight out for shooting.
