Leica M5 Black Chrome

※About rarity

The Leica M5 Black, a connoisseur’s choice among M-series cameras. This example has a serial number in the 1.29 million range and was manufactured in 1972. It is the early two-lug version, with two strap lugs. The Leitz product code is 10502.
It features a highly legible match-needle exposure meter, while the shutter speed dial is positioned within natural reach of the index finger. This allows the photographer to adjust settings and continue shooting without taking their eye away from the viewfinder, making the M5 an exceptionally practical camera to use.
Its body is larger than those of the Leica M4 and earlier models, but its handling and grip are outstanding.
The black M5 pairs beautifully not only with black lenses, but also with classic chrome-finished lenses such as the Summicron and Summilux.

There are some extremely light scuffs on the top cover and base plate, as well as slight age-related deterioration to the black chrome finish on the top plate. Overall, however, the exterior remains in fairly good condition. There are no dents or impact marks.
Fully overhauled in July 2026. All controls now operate smoothly. The viewfinder is clear and bright, with good contrast in the rangefinder patch. The exposure meter is also functioning accurately.
Please note that some currently available LR9, V625U, and PX625U batteries, commonly used as substitutes for the original MR9, may not fit the Leica M5 due to their increased thickness. In such cases, we recommend using a battery adapter made by Kanto Camera.
Another notable feature is the serial number, which ends in 7000. Leica cameras with three consecutive zeros in the serial number are rarely encountered. An appealing example for both use and collection.
