Summicron 35mm f2 with a chrome finish. Commonly known as the 8-element version. The Leitz product code is SAWOM, later updated to 11308. This particular lens was made in Canada, with a serial number in the 2.28 million range, indicating production in 1968, the final year of the 8-element design. The following year, in 1969, production transitioned to the 6-element version.

This was also a period when production of the Leica M2 came to an end and fully shifted to the M4. The minimum focusing distance is 0.7m. Filter size is E39. The coating has an orange-purple tone. The lens weighs 180g.

The 8-element Summicron, born during the golden era of Leitz, is highly regarded not only for its exceptional rendering but also for its functional beauty, characteristic of German industrial design.
At full aperture, it produces a soft and gentle image. Stopping down slightly enhances dimensionality, and further stopping down results in sharper rendering while retaining a certain softness. It embodies the classic Leica style and rendering. A timeless masterpiece that continues to hold its high reputation. Truly the standard.

Compatible genuine hoods include ITDOO and IROOA. Later models such as 12585 and 12504 can also be used.

The matte chrome finish on the filter ring is also beautiful, contributing to a very clean overall appearance. There are only minimal signs of use, and it would pair nicely even with a new camera body.

Fully overhauled in March 2026. The aperture and helicoid operate with a smooth, well-damped feel. The infinity stopper engages effortlessly, sliding into the lock position with ease. Rangefinder coupling is perfectly accurate.

There is a very slight coating wear on an inner element, only visible under strong LED light, but it had no noticeable effect on actual shooting. No haze or cleaning marks are present, and the coating remains intact across all surfaces.
