Summilux 50mm f1.4, 2nd version in chrome finish. Leitz product code SOOME, later updated to 11114. Serial number in the 2.02 million range, manufactured in 1962. Among the many Leica lenses ever made, this is regarded as one of the most beautiful designs, often referred to as The Lady. This example features a purple-toned coating with hints of amber. Filter size is E43. Compatible hoods are XOOIM, 12521G, and 12586.
While retaining the same exterior design as the 1st version Summilux, the optical formula quietly evolved into the second generation. Rendering near full aperture became noticeably sharper and more refined.
The distinctive softness of the 1st version certainly has its own charm, but many photographers may well prefer the exquisite balance of the 2nd, which retains a solid core of sharpness even wide open. A truly versatile lens for those who want to fully enjoy shooting near maximum aperture.
The lens shows only minimal signs of use, with beautifully preserved satin chrome finish. Among the Lady Summilux lenses, this is easily one of the finer cosmetic examples. It would pair wonderfully with a clean Leica body as well.
Fully overhauled in May 2026. Thanks to careful servicing, both the aperture ring and helicoid now operate with exceptionally smooth feel. Rangefinder coupling is spot on.
There are faint spot-like traces of fungus marks remaining on the rear element that could not be completely removed during servicing. It is a pity considering the otherwise beautiful condition, with the original coatings still well preserved on every surface and no noticeable cleaning marks or haze present. Fortunately, the actual shooting results were excellent, and no visible effect from the fungus traces could be observed in practical use.
The lens comes with a genuine E43 filter and 12521G hood, making this a great-value set ready to take straight out for shooting. Enjoy the full charm of photographing with the 2nd version Lady Summilux!
