Summaron 3.5cm f3.5 for Leica M mount. This version has an E39 filter thread and accepts IROOA and ITDOO hoods. The Leitz code is SOONC-M. It has a 6-element, 4-group optical design.
This lens has a 1.61 million serial number and was made in 1958. The distance scale is in feet. It was produced after the Leica M2 had already been introduced, and when mounted on an M2 or later body, the 35mm frame lines appear automatically.
The so-called Sanshan Summaron is known for its rich, dense rendering. Its dramatic fall-off toward the corners gives images a wonderful old-lens character, while the plane of focus remains sharp and well-defined. This E39 version is also an excellent match for Leica M bodies.
There are some very light scuffs and small marks on the barrel, and it shows some signs of use, but the overall appearance is quite presentable. There is a tiny mark on the mount surface, about the size of a poppy seed, but it does not affect mounting on a camera body.
Fully overhauled in May 2026. Thanks to careful servicing, the aperture, helicoid, and all other controls now operate very smoothly. Rangefinder coupling is also spot on.
The Summaron is well known as a lens that often suffers from haze, but this particular example is beautifully clear. The results from our test shooting were also excellent.
Comes with genuine front and rear caps.
