Noctilux-M 50mm f1.0. E60 late version. The final model with a built-in hood, often nicknamed E60 with built-in hood.
Serial number in the 3.6 million range, manufactured in 1992. Made in Canada. Leica product code 11822. Minimum focusing distance is 1 meter.
A 6-group, 7-element design. It inherits the optical formula from the earlier E58 versions of the f1.0, achieving ultra-high speed performance without the use of aspherical elements as seen in the first-generation f1.2 Noctilux. At close range, it delivers a soft, gentle rendering with beautiful flare. The rich bokeh, glowing highlights, and characteristic vignetting create a truly distinctive Noctilux look. As the distance increases to around 2 to 3 meters, the plane of focus becomes more defined, and when focus is nailed—which can be quite challenging—it produces a striking subject separation.
Many E60 examples are known to have issues with rangefinder coupling, making wide-open shooting difficult. However, this particular lens has been precisely adjusted and achieves excellent coupling accuracy. It is a lens we highly recommend enjoying on a Leica M body. Of course, using it on a mirrorless system such as the SL is also a great option for achieving higher focusing accuracy.
Shows only minimal signs of use and appears almost like new at a glance. The plastic hood section, which often tends to show wear, has only very slight scuffing. It would pair beautifully with a new Leica body.
A full overhaul including focus adjustment was completed in March 2026. The aperture and helicoid now operate with exceptionally smooth feel. Before servicing, it showed a tendency toward back focus, but after adjustment, the rangefinder coupling is spot on. In addition to its beautiful exterior, the glass is very clean and clear, with no cleaning marks or haze.
The serial numbers do not match, but it comes with the original box, instruction manual, leather case, 13381 E60 UVa filter, and front and rear caps.
