The Summicron is one of Leitz's classic high-speed lenses. Following the Summar and Summitar, it was introduced as the third generation of fast standard lenses. Its outstanding resolving power caused quite a sensation in the photographic industry at the time, and together with the later debut of the Leica M3, it helped usher in the golden age of Leitz.
Although a large number of these collapsible Summicrons were produced, many surviving examples have suffered damage to the glass from cleaning marks or deterioration of the inner elements. As a result, examples that can still show the lens's original performance are becoming harder to find.
The glass on this particular lens is in comparatively good condition. It would also make a good introduction to classic Leica lenses.

There are a few light rub marks on the chrome-plated section around the base, but the upper matte bead-blasted chrome finish and knurled areas are very clean. Overall, the lens is in good cosmetic condition with no noticeable scratches or dents.
Fully overhauled in September 2026. After careful servicing, both the aperture click stops and helicoid operation feel smooth and pleasant. Rangefinder coupling is accurate, and focus is also good.
The front and rear elements show only a few extremely faint cleaning marks that are visible only under strong LED light. There is also a very slight haze-like deterioration of the coating around the edge of an inner element, but it should have no effect on image quality.
The results of our test shooting were also good.
