Hektor 2.8cm f6.3. Chrome-plated barrel. Uncoated. Distance scale in meters. Continental aperture scale. Leitz product code HOOPYCHROM.
This example is from the 250,000 serial range, an early 1st batch produced in 1935. Considering the period, both nickel and chrome versions of the Hektor 28mm were likely offered concurrently from the beginning. A great piece for those who appreciate early production models.
Among Leica lenses, the Hektor 28mm is one of the smallest. Perfect as a travel companion. It pairs beautifully not only with Barnack Leicas, but also on M bodies via an M/L adapter, where its ultra-thin design really stands out. It matches equally well with chrome bodies and black paint finishes. The correct original hood is the charming trumpet-shaped SOOHN.
Due to its extremely thin and compact design, please take extra care not to drop it. As with any lens, it is best to change lenses at a low position to avoid accidents.
Minor signs of use such as light scuffs can be seen in places, but there are no noticeable scratches, and it retains a clean appearance that is hard to believe for a lens nearly 90 years old.
All functions are in good working order, including the aperture and helicoid. Rangefinder coupling is spot on, and focusing is accurate.
The glass shows a slight yellowing due to age, but there are no cleaning marks or haze. It remains beautifully clear with excellent transparency.
Test shots also delivered very good results. A Hektor with good glass condition performs exceptionally well. It is also enjoyable to compare its rendering with lenses such as the Red Summaron or other 28mm lenses.
A genuine front cap is included.
