Leica Summaron 35mm f2.8, commonly known as the Nippachi Summaron. The Leitz product code is SIMOM-M, later changed to 11306. Serial number in the 2.21 million range, made in Germany in 1966.

Although it shares the same 6-element in 4-group optical design as the previous Summaron f3.5, the adoption of new types of optical glass gave this lens a brighter character. Color reproduction and resolution were also improved. Even wide open, it delivers sharp images with a tasteful amount of vignetting, producing atmospheric and highly appealing rendering. The shape of the infinity lock was also redesigned, giving it an appearance remarkably similar to the legendary 8-element Summicron 35mm introduced the same year. It also pairs beautifully with modern digital Leica M bodies.

Filter size is E39. Minimum focusing distance is 0.7m. Actual measured weight is 180g.

Compatible hoods are the ITDOO and IROOA.

Minor scratches and wear can be seen around the front edge of the filter rim, and there are a few very faint marks on the barrel as well. However, there are no noticeable dents or heavy damage, and overall it retains a clean and respectable appearance.

Fully overhauled in April 2026. Thanks to careful servicing, both the aperture ring and helicoid now operate with a beautifully smooth, damped feel. Even the sensation of the infinity lock engaging has been finely tuned. Rangefinder coupling is spot on, and focusing accuracy is excellent.

The glass shows one linear scratch on the rear element along with two or three faint cleaning marks, but these should have virtually no effect on image quality. There is no haze or fungus damage, and the optics remain beautifully clear and well transparent. The internal anti-reflection matte lacquer has also been carefully reapplied, contributing to improved contrast and a more refined rendering. Test shooting results were excellent as well. A highly practical lens ready for real use.

Comes with a genuine UVa filter and original front and rear caps.
