Hektor 2.8cm f6.3. A rare postwar coated version. Leitz product code: HOOPYCHROM. Serial number in the 790,000 range, made in 1950. Among the Hektor 28mm lenses produced from 1935 onward, this is from one of the later batches.
Distance scale in feet, with international aperture scale. The pale blue coating should help compensate for one of the Hektor 28mm’s known weaknesses, its relative susceptibility to backlight.
This Hektor 28mm is one of the smallest Leica lenses. It pairs beautifully not only with Barnack Leicas, but also with M-mount Leica bodies via an L/M adapter, where its ultra-slim design looks right at home.
Because this lens is extremely thin and compact, please take extra care not to drop it. Lenses such as the Elmar 35mm and this Hektor 28mm are among the lenses most prone to accidental drops. This applies to other lenses as well, but it is always a good idea to change lenses as close to a low surface as possible.
There are signs of use throughout, including scuffs and wear. A few tiny marks can be seen on the edges of the base, but there are no major dents or distortion. Overall, it is in just the right condition for practical use.
Fully overhauled in April 2026. The helicoid moves very smoothly, and the aperture ring has been adjusted to feel smooth without being too light. Rangefinder coupling is spot-on, and focusing is accurate.
There are fine cleaning marks on the front element. They may have a slight effect under backlit conditions, but in our test shots, the benefit of the coating was also noticeable, producing very good images with solid contrast. Please take a look at our sample gallery. All sample images were taken wide open.
The original front and rear caps are included.
