Summaron 28mm f5.6, commonly known as the Red Scale Summaron. One stop faster than its predecessor, the Hektor 28mm f6.3. Serial number in the 1.87 million range, manufactured in 1961. Leitz product code SNOOX. Meter scale. A Gauss-type optical design with 6 elements in 4 groups.

Introduced in 1955 as the successor to the Hektor 28mm f6.3, and produced until 1963. The filter size remains the same as the Hektor 28mm, using a 36mm slip-on mount (A36).

A lens born during Leitz’s postwar golden era, when legendary cameras such as the Leica M3, MP, and M2 appeared one after another. Not only does it deliver beautiful image quality, but the superb chrome finish and timeless design — still looking remarkably modern more than 60 years after production — continue to earn it a devoted following today.

Fitted with its dedicated square hood SOOBK, the lens looks absolutely stunning, allowing you to fully appreciate the refined styling unique to Leica products of this era.

In recent years, an unexpected reissue version attracted considerable attention, but original examples were produced in relatively small numbers, and finding a clean one has become increasingly difficult year by year.

There are of course no scratches or dents, and even faint signs of wear are scarcely visible. The barrel remains in remarkably beautiful condition. It is hard to believe at a glance that this lens is already well over sixty years old.
Fully overhauled in April 2026. Both the aperture ring and helicoid feel exceptionally smooth in operation, making for a truly satisfying shooting experience. Rangefinder coupling is spot on, and focus accuracy is excellent.
Under strong LED light, only the slightest trace of coating deterioration can be seen, with no effect on image quality. There are no cleaning marks or fungus traces, and the glass is clear. For a red Summaron, a lens type well known for haze issues, this is an especially clean example. Test shooting results were also excellent.
Comes with period-correct genuine front and rear caps.
