※About rarity

The earliest version of the Summilux 35mm f1.4 2nd, commonly known as the stopper-equipped model. Leitz product code 11870. Serial number in the 2.22 million range, manufactured in Canada in 1966. A transitional-period model produced just before Leica M4 deliveries began the following year in 1967.

This example features the later black-painted stopper over a silver base. In other words, it is the later variation of the early stopper-equipped Summilux 35mm 2nd with the black-painted stopper. Confusing, we know 😅 Incidentally, the very earliest version had a brass-based painted stopper.

One of Leitz’s most iconic large-aperture wide-angle lenses, the spherical Summilux 35mm. Wide open, it delivers a beautifully soft and glowing rendering, while stopping down brings crisp sharpness and that unmistakable Summilux character. Among them, the stopper-equipped version is especially sought after by collectors and photographers alike. Already rare to begin with, it has become noticeably harder to find in recent years as demand continues to grow.

Showing only minimal signs of use, the lens remains in beautifully clean cosmetic condition. Aside from the stopper section, where paint loss is common, it still retains much of the atmosphere of a brand-new example from its day. The black paint on the stopper itself also remains relatively well preserved.

Fully overhauled in May 2026. The aperture ring and helicoid have both been adjusted to an exceptionally smooth operating feel. Rangefinder coupling is spot on.

The glass shows only extremely minor coating deterioration. There are no noticeable scratches or haze, and the optics are beautifully clear and crisp. For a 2nd version Summilux 35mm, the glass condition ranks comfortably among the better examples.

Included are a mismatched original box, a Germany-made 12504 hood, and genuine caps. The 12504 hood accepts Series VII filters.

A black stopper Summilux 35mm 2nd that is also highly suitable for collection purposes.
