The first-generation Summicron 50mm f2 with fixed barrel, early version. Serial number 1.54 million, manufactured in 1957. Leitz product code SOOIC-MS, later known as 11818. Meter-scaled. Minimum focusing distance is 1m.
The Summicron is one of Leica’s signature lenses and remains in production to this day. Featuring a modified Gauss-type optical design with 7 elements in 6 groups, it was engineered with an emphasis on contrast while also improving resolving power. A genuinely legendary lens deserving of its reputation. Its astonishing sharpness continues to impress every time it is used, easily holding its own against modern lenses.
A timeless design that still looks perfectly at home on current digital Leica bodies. The first-generation model, with its beautifully sculpted form and richly finished chrome plating, continues to enjoy enduring popularity today. A true Leica standard lens — wonderful to admire, and even better to shoot with.
Filter size is E39. Compatible hoods include the ITDOO and IROOA.
The silver paint on the focusing helicoid remains beautifully intact, making this an outstanding cosmetic example for an early fixed-barrel version. A lens that truly lets you appreciate the quality of Leitz at its golden age. It would pair perfectly with a clean Leica M3 or M2 as well.
Fully overhauled in May 2026. The aperture and helicoid now operate with exceptionally smooth feel thanks to careful servicing. Rangefinder coupling is spot on, and focusing accuracy is excellent.
There is some coating deterioration remaining on the glass that could not be completely removed during servicing, but it is only barely visible under strong LED light. It should have no noticeable effect on actual photography. Test shooting results were also excellent. No noticeable scratches or haze can be seen.
Period-correct genuine front and rear caps are included.
