Leica M3 Black Paint, shipped in July 1963. Serial number in the 1.07 million range. A late M3 model with single-stroke advance, finished in black paint. The year 1963 marked a turning point in history, with events such as the assassination of JFK and Martin Luther King Jr.’s iconic speech. It was also a time when photojournalists were highly active, and demand for black paint models was on the rise.
This example retains its full originality, including the vulcanite covering and all screws. There is slight brassing on areas frequently touched, such as the shutter collar, advance lever, and frame selector lever, but for an M3 Black Paint, the overall appearance is exceptionally clean.
There are no dents or major marks—an outstandingly beautiful M3 Black Paint. It is becoming increasingly rare to find one like this.
Among the typically well-used M3BP cameras, this is easily a piece that can be described as excellent, even near mint.
There is a gentle sheen on the areas where hands naturally make contact, giving it a very natural and pleasing character. The paint remains in excellent condition throughout, with no signs of dents or impact marks. Combined with its beautiful appearance, the vulcanite covering retains a crisp texture, offering a smooth and refreshing grip. A piece that truly feels as though it has been carefully preserved over many years.
Overhauled in April 2026. Initially, the operation felt quite worn, but thanks to careful servicing, all moving parts—including the film advance, shutter dial, and self-timer—now operate exceptionally smoothly. The viewfinder is also bright and crystal clear. Equally suitable for a collection or for continued use and enjoyment.
A rare body cap with full blackened brass finish is included.
