Dual Range Summicron 50mm f2, the early version of the close-focusing Summicron.

This example has a serial number in the 1.46 million range and was made in 1957. The Leitz code name is SOOIC-MN or SOMNI, later changed to 11918. The helicoid distance scale is in meters.

The lens focuses down to 1m on its own, and with the goggles attached, close focusing to around 0.5m is possible while parallax is corrected at the same time. The superb precision and beautifully engineered movement are pure Leitz at its peak.

If you use an M-series Leica and often find yourself wishing you could get just a little closer, this is the kind of lens that gradually starts to become very tempting.

Please note that it cannot be used on digital M-series Leicas prior to the M10, as it interferes with the rangefinder roller. It can be used without issue on the current M11.

For close-up shooting on the M11 or mirrorless cameras without the goggles, all you need is to know a simple trick. Feel free to ask us for details.

This is an item previously sold by our shop. It was carefully used by its owner and has now returned to us once again. Its condition remains much as it was when we last sold it, with little sign of use and a very clean appearance. The slightly shiny chrome plating is also in excellent condition.

A full overhaul was performed in 2021 when we previously sold the lens. For this sale, we have once again had the lens head overhauled to ensure it is in the best possible condition.

Thanks to careful servicing, the aperture retains its pleasant click stops, while the helicoid has a smooth, nicely weighted feel. As you would expect from a DR Summicron, rangefinder coupling is spot-on and focus is accurate. The glass in the finder goggles is also very clean.

Under strong LED light, some slight coating deterioration can be seen on the rear element, but it should have virtually no effect on actual photographs. Otherwise, there is no haze or cleaning marks, and the glass is in very good condition. Our test shots also produced excellent results.

The original front cap and box are included. The box does not match the serial number of the lens, but it is period-correct. With its design dating from the era of the legendary Leica MP, it is a wonderful original box from the good old days of Leica.
