Elmar 50mm f3.5 in nickel barrel. Leitz product code: ELMAR. Serial number in the 230,000 range, manufactured in 1934. This is a New Elmar from the era of the Leica DII, DIII, and Standard. Uncoated. Half-turn helicoid. Distance scale in feet. Helicoid number 7. 4 elements in 3 groups. Rangefinder coupled.

The standard lens that helped lay the foundation for Leica’s reputation today. Even after more than 90 years, its value as a lens has not faded. One cannot help but admire Leitz craftsmanship, which allows it to remain fully usable even now. With an L/M adapter, it can also be used on M-mount cameras, including digital M bodies. It is a delightful lens for choosing a companion that transcends generations.

In addition to its stable rendering and the gentle color character unique to an uncoated lens, its understated nickel shine and its lightweight, compact build, something hardly found in modern lenses, are also part of its charm.

Compatible hood: FISON. Our original FB-07 hood for Elmar lenses, with aperture control function, can also be used.

There are light scuffs and a few linear scratches on the collapsible barrel, but for a nickel-era Elmar, it is certainly in rather clean condition. The name ring shows a very slight distortion.

Fully overhauled in May 2026. The aperture and helicoid now operate very smoothly. Rangefinder coupling is also spot-on.

There was some haze before servicing, but thanks to the recent overhaul, the glass now has excellent clarity. There are no noticeable cleaning marks.

Comes with the original Bakelite front cap, rear cap, and original box. The rim of the front cap has a crack, but it has been properly glued and repaired, so it can be used without issue. A very atmospheric complete nickel Elmar set!
