Summaron 35mm f3.5, early version, A36 model. Leica screw mount. Serial number in the 1,000,000 range. Manufactured in 1952. Leitz product code SOONC. A double Gauss type lens with a 6-element in 4-group construction. Distance scale in meters.
Introduced in 1946 as the successor to the Elmar 35mm f3.5. Compared to the Elmar, it is slightly taller and a bit heavier, yet still compact with excellent mobility. The classic old-lens design is also part of its charm.
It offers high resolution at the center, and when used near wide open, the natural vignetting creates a dramatic atmosphere.
A wonderful performer with classic Leica rendering, yet produced in relatively large numbers and still reasonably priced, making it a very appealing standard wide-angle lens.
Compatible hood is FOOKH, and it takes A36 slip-on filters.
There are no noticeable scratches or dents, and the lens presents a very clean appearance.
A full overhaul including focus adjustment was carried out in March 2026. The aperture ring and helicoid are both very smooth, offering a pleasant operating feel. Rangefinder coupling is spot on, and focus is accurate.
A very slight haze remains on the rear side of the front element that could not be completely removed during cleaning, but it should have no effect on image quality. There are no cleaning marks, and the coating remains intact across the entire surface. Actual shooting results were very good. Please refer to the sample images in our test gallery.
