Hektor 2.8cm f6.3. A rare postwar version with coating. Leitz product code HOOPYCHROM. Serial number in the 790,000 range, manufactured in 1950. Distance scale in feet. International aperture standard. The coating helps to compensate for the Hektor 28mm’s known weakness of being somewhat prone to flare in backlit conditions.
This example comes from one of the final production batches of the Hektor 28mm, originally introduced in 1935, and features slight design differences from prewar models. The most notable change is the relocation of the serial number from the rear of the lens to the front. However, the engraving is extremely small and nearly impossible to read without a loupe.
Among Leica lenses, this Hektor 28mm is one of the smallest in size. It pairs beautifully not only with Barnack Leicas but also with M bodies via an M/L adapter, where its ultra-thin design stands out nicely.
Due to its very slim and compact form, please take extra care not to drop it. As with any lens, it is advisable to change lenses at a low position to minimize the risk of accidents 💡
Minor scuffs are visible around the mount base, but there are no noticeable scratches, dents, or plating deterioration, and the overall appearance remains very clean.
Fully overhauled in March 2026. Both the aperture ring and helicoid operate with exceptionally smooth and pleasant feel. Rangefinder coupling is spot on, and focus accuracy is excellent.
A few extremely faint cleaning marks can be seen on the rear element, but they will have virtually no impact on image quality. Actual shooting tests produced excellent results, and the benefits of the coating can be clearly appreciated.
Original front and rear caps are included.
