A twin-lens reflex camera made by Franke & Heidecke of Germany, the Rolleiflex 3.5 MX-EVS early model. It is also known as the 3.5C. Serial number in the 1.48 million range, produced around 1954, roughly the same period when the Leica M3 appeared.
Housed in a carefully crafted lightweight body and fitted with the renowned Tessar f3.5 lens. Evolved from the Rolleiflex Automat, this model represents one of the completed forms of the Rollei twin-lens reflex design and is extremely easy to use. Compared with the later, more luxurious bodies such as the 3.5F and 2.8F, it offers a different character in both handling and rendering, making it something of a hidden masterpiece among Rolleiflex cameras. Actual measured weight is 1030g.
As this is the early version, the light value lock is released by pressing the center of the aperture adjustment dial while operating it.
Incidentally, the Rolleiflex used by photographer Vivian Maier is believed to have been the model just before this one, likely the Automat Type 4.
Although the MX-EVS was produced for only about two years, the number manufactured was not particularly small. Even so, finding an example in such beautiful condition is rather rare.

Paint loss can be seen on the upper left and right corners above the ROLLEIFLEX nameplate, but aside from this the camera shows very little sign of use and remains in quite beautiful condition. The paint and plating on the focusing hood, film advance lever area, around the lens board, and the tripod socket are all in lovely shape.
Overhauled in February 2026. All functions have been adjusted to operate smoothly. Film advance and focusing are both very smooth, and the finder view is clear.
There is a stain on the coating of the front element of the taking lens due to coating deterioration, but it is unlikely to have any noticeable effect on actual photography.
A leather case and lens cap are included.
