The second-generation Summicron 50mm f2, renewed in 1969. This is the 6-element version, with a serial number in the 2.34 million range, made in its first year of production, 1969.
With this generation, the minimum focusing distance was shortened from 1 meter to 0.7 meters, and the infinity lock was eliminated. These changes brought a more modern handling feel and greatly improved practicality.
One of its standout features is its light weight. At an actual measured weight of 200g, this compact and lightweight design maximizes mobility when mounted on an M-series Leica. The compatible filter size is E39.
In terms of rendering, it is often overshadowed by the legendary first generation, but it combines stable resolution with the rich, characterful look that Leica is known for. A lens that grows on you the more you use it, much like dried squid, revealing its true appeal over time. With good glass condition, it delivers first-class results even today, in both color and black-and-white photography.
The included 12585 hood is a classic accessory that completes the look of M-series Leicas of the era, and it can be mounted in reverse for compact storage.
Minor paint loss from use can be seen on the edges, but overall the lens shows little wear and remains in very good cosmetic condition. A clean-looking Summicron 2nd that you can enjoy using without hesitation.
All functions operate correctly. The helicoid feels slightly light, but there are no issues in practical use (overhaul service is available at an additional cost).
The glass is clear and bright, with no noticeable cleaning marks or haze. Test shots produced excellent results, with spot-on rangefinder coupling and image formation.
A 12585 hood and hood cap are included. The 12585 hood shows some signs of use.
