※About rarity

The Leica IIIg, the final evolution of the Barnack Leica. Leitz product code GOOEF. Serial number in the 820,000 range, manufactured in 1956 in Germany.
As a product of Leica’s golden age, no expense was spared in its design and manufacture. The level of quality is so high that even simply holding and admiring it is enough to make the heart race. It is a camera that lets you truly feel a kind of physical quality that is gradually disappearing from modern industrial products.
Incorporating technologies introduced with the Leica M3, released earlier in 1954, the IIIg is the only Barnack Leica to feature built-in bright frames for 50mm and 90mm lenses with parallax correction. The finder is exceptionally clear, and in terms of usability, it stands head and shoulders above all other Barnack models.

This is an item previously sold by our store and has now come back to us, having been carefully used by its owner.

There is a small chip at the top of the viewfinder eyepiece, one small mark on the corner of the top cover near the winding knob, and a minor ding on the corner of the bottom plate near the tripod socket. In addition, there are very slight rub marks on the accessory shoe, shutter speed dial, and bottom plate. Overall, however, the camera presents a clean and attractive appearance. The vulcanite covering is entirely original and offers a pleasant, dry grip.

An overhaul including shutter curtain replacement was carried out in 2025. All functions remain in excellent working order with smooth operation throughout. The viewfinder is bright and clear, and the rangefinder patch shows strong contrast.

Well maintained and neatly serviced, this Leica IIIg gives a very clean impression and is a camera you can enjoy using with confidence.
