Summicron-M 90mm f2, black finish. Second generation with serial number in the 3.48 million range, produced in 1989. Made in Canada. Leica product code 11136. Built-in hood. Filter size E55. Minimum focusing distance 1m.
This new-generation Summicron 90mm was introduced in 1980 with a completely redesigned optical formula. In 1982 it received a minor update with a built-in hood and E55 filter size, and production continued until 1998. The optical design consists of 5 elements in 4 groups. It is characterized by a razor-sharp plane of focus from wide open and beautifully rich bokeh. Truly worthy of the Summicron name.
With the hood retracted, the length from the front edge to the mount is just under 8 cm. A compact yet large-aperture, fast medium-telephoto lens. The weight is approximately 480 g measured. While somewhat heavier compared to many Leica M lenses, it still offers excellent mobility in practical use.
Many examples of this lens suffer from questionable rangefinder coupling, but this one is unusually precise and perfectly coupled. The condition is also excellent, making it a particularly desirable example.
No signs of use are visible. It retains the fresh, almost new atmosphere from when it was originally sold.
Fully overhauled in March 2026. Thanks to careful servicing, both the aperture and helicoid operate with a pleasant, well-balanced torque. Rangefinder coupling is spot on.
Many examples of this lens are known to have questionable rangefinder coupling, so we performed repeated tests to be absolutely certain. The result is a very satisfying example that snaps into focus crisply through the rangefinder even at full aperture.
Under strong LED light, a very faint trace of coating deterioration can be seen in the glass, but only when carefully examined, and it should have virtually no effect on actual photographs. The results from our test shots were excellent.
Includes a 13373 UVa filter, original front and rear caps, and a leather case.
