Wide-Angle Rolleiflex, commonly known as the Wide Rollei. It also has another nickname in Japan: Wide de Dodai.
A dedicated wide-angle model that remains highly popular for the sharp rendering of its Distagon 55mm f4 lens. Production of the Wide-Angle Rolleiflex began in 1961, and this example is believed to have been made around 1967. Filters and lens hoods use the dedicated Bayonet IV mount.
This is the model without a light meter. The focusing knob has a distance scale in feet. The screen is the original full matte type.
Overall, this is a clean Wide-Angle Rolleiflex that gives the impression of having been carefully used over the years.
There are some scuffs, small marks, and minor paint loss around the winding crank and along the edge of the lens board on the crank side. There are also small scratches and tiny dents on the edge of the back door and around the EV value chart. However, there are no major scratches or dents, and the overall appearance is fairly clean.
In June 2026, the shutter, winding crank, and other mechanisms were serviced by a professional repairer. The crank, focusing knob, shutter, and aperture control dial now operate smoothly, making the camera very pleasant to handle.
The taking lens, a Distagon 55mm, shows two or three very faint cleaning marks on the front element when held against a strong LED light. However, there is no haze or fungus, and the glass is beautifully clear and bright. For a Wide Rolleiflex that leans more toward practical use, this is a rarely seen level of optical condition. Whether anyone will actually make use of it or not, the sports finder also offers a remarkably clear view.
The included genuine RIV hood has one small ding, but is otherwise quite clean overall. Also included are a genuine RIV UV filter, a genuine black leather crab-claw strap from a later period, and an aftermarket cap made specifically for the Wide Rolleiflex. Since finding accessories for a Wide Rollei is no easy task, this is a very nice bonus.
