Rolleiflex 3.5F, Type 1, with coupled exposure meter and Planar lens. Serial number in the 2.20 million range, manufactured around 1958–60. The original focusing screen is a matte screen with grid lines and split-image focusing aid.
Like the 2.8F, the 3.5F was available with either a Planar or Xenotar lens, and both are highly regarded, making it difficult to say which is superior. The 75mm angle of view is also wonderfully balanced.
The higher-end 2.8F is, of course, a superb model, but with its more than sufficient brightness for outdoor use and highly practical angle of view, the 3.5F could well be the real choice for those who love taking photographs.
This early 3.5F features the Light Value system, where the aperture and shutter speed are coupled and move together. By pressing the button on the side of the aperture control dial while operating it, only the shutter speed will move.
A carefully crafted 3.5F from the good old days. It offers the full pleasure of the beautifully made construction and refined feel that only a Rolleiflex, the pinnacle of twin-lens reflex cameras, can provide.
There is a dent on the aluminum edge at the lower right of the back door, and possibly because of this, the door lock operates rather tightly. The area around the tripod socket appears to have been polished and has a glossy shine. Otherwise, there are few signs of use, and the overall exterior condition is good.
Overhauled in June 2026. All controls have been adjusted to operate smoothly. The winding crank action is exceptionally smooth, and the exposure meter is working properly.
There is a relatively large balsam separation on the rear element of the taking lens. We consulted an experienced repair technician, who advised that this balsam separation should have almost no effect on actual photographs. Taking this separation into account, we have priced this camera very reasonably.
Lens cap, diffuser, strap, and leather case are included. The original leather strap is in beautiful condition and appears to have seen very little use.
