※About rarity

Leica Model A with early Elmar lens. Serial number 11xxx, made in 1928. A well-used and well-loved Model A with the characteristic dimpled shutter release. Distance scale in meters.
Nearly a century after its manufacture, this is the very origin of Leica that remains perfectly usable even today. Leitz’s product code is proudly simply LEICA. From this starting point, the history of Leica has continued for the past hundred years.

It shows honest signs of age consistent with its long life, yet the finely knurled wind and rewind knobs, the early Elmar nameplate with its small font, the coarse-grain vulcanite covering, and the bottom plate lock with its distinctive latch are all original period components, offering countless details to appreciate.

A legendary camera that delivers fourfold pleasure: enjoy it visually, enjoy researching it, enjoy the tactile feel, and be amazed by the images it produces. This example clearly conveys the feeling of a camera that has been carefully used as a practical tool. The Model A is scale-focus, but with meter markings and a bit of stopping down, it is more than capable for real-world shooting.
We also display many sample images taken with the Model A in our shop. Please be sure to take a look when you visit. You are guaranteed to be surprised by the results.

This is a previously sold item from our shop, carefully used by its owner and now returned to us once again.

The exterior shows black paint wear in various areas, plating loss on the collapsible section from many years of use, one minor dent repair mark on the rear side of the top cover, and a repaired area of vulcanite on the front right side. However, considering it is an early Leica A model retaining its originality, the overall condition is quite respectable.

The camera was overhauled in 2021. Film advance, shutter, and all other functions are currently smooth and operating perfectly. The viewfinder is clear, and the glass of the early Elmar lens is clean and in good condition.

As an operational point specific to early Leica A models equipped with a mushroom button and dimpled release, the shutter release must be kept pressed while rewinding.

This is the origin of Leica, a model every Leica user should experience at least once.

A period-correct brass front lens cap is included.
