Uncoated Elmar 35mm f3.5, EKURZCHROM. Serial number in the 540,000 range, produced in 1940. Meter scale. 3-group, 4-element construction.
Among Leica lenses, this is the second thinnest lens after the Hektor 28mm. It is wonderfully compact not only on a Barnack Leica, but also when mounted on an M-body, offering excellent portability. It is easy to slip one more lens into your camera bag.
The atmosphere it creates wide open, with its characteristic corner fall-off, is very appealing. While orthodox in character, it is a lens with surprising depth the more you use it, and it has been enjoying renewed appreciation in recent years.
Compatible hoods are the FLQOO or FOOKH. Our original FB-07 hood for Elmar lenses, with built-in aperture control, can also be used comfortably without vignetting.
There are somewhat noticeable scuffs and minor marks around the base of the barrel, but there are no dents or dings, and overall the barrel remains quite clean and attractive.
Fully overhauled in May 2026. Both the aperture ring and helicoid are very smooth, with a pleasant feel in operation. Rangefinder coupling is spot on, and focus is also excellent. The matte lacquer inside the barrel for suppressing internal reflections has also been carefully reapplied, so you can expect an even tighter image rendering.
The glass shows a slight age-related amber tint, but there are no cleaning marks or haze, and the glass is clear and beautifully transparent.
The results of our test shooting were also excellent. You can enjoy its calm, subtle color rendering together with crisp, well-contrasted images.
The included original front cap has a mysterious round mark in the center, but it does not go all the way through and still functions properly as a cap.
