Summicron-M 35mm f2, the highly sought-after 7-element version. Black chrome finish. Leitz product code 11310. Serial number in the 3.41 million range, made in Canada in 1986. Overseas, it is also known as the Bokeh King for its beautifully smooth out-of-focus rendering.
This is the third generation of the Summicron 35mm, featuring a 5-group, 7-element optical design, commonly referred to as the 7-element version. It represents a well-balanced and mature evolution of Leica M wide-angle lenses.
Compared to the first-generation 8-element version and the second-generation 6-element version, the exterior design is considerably more simplified, yet the optical performance remains outstanding. It delivers rich, dense bokeh, a wide and expressive tonal range, excellent resolution, and a clean, minimal, and highly functional design. Another appealing point is its light weight, measuring just 152g in actual use.
The correct period hood supplied with this lens is the 12524, but IROOA, 12585, and 12504 hoods are also compatible.
Literally in like-new condition, with no signs of use. It feels as if this classic 7-element lens has traveled here in a time machine from 1986. An excellent choice for collectors as well.
All functions operate perfectly, with accurate rangefinder coupling. The results of actual shooting tests were also excellent.
The glass is free from haze and cleaning marks, remaining crystal clear and transparent, allowing you to fully enjoy the original rendering of this 7-element design.
Sample images have been uploaded to our test gallery. Using a demo Leica M11, we took this lens out to Yamashita Park and Yokohama Chinatown during the lively New Year season. All shots were taken wide open, yet the lens delivered high resolution and contrast, with gentle foreground blur and rich background bokeh at close distances—showcasing the true character of the 7-element design. Whether shooting close-up or at a distance, the sharp and confident focus wide open is truly impressive.
The set comes complete with the original box matching the serial number, the original warranty card, a 12524 hood, a UVa filter, and front and rear caps.
