※About rarity

Summarit 50mm f1.5 for M-mount. This is an early version of the lens. Product code is SOOIA-M. Serial number in the 1.41 million range, manufactured in 1956. The distance scale is in feet, and the filter size is E41, the same as the early Steel Rim Summilux 35mm.

The Summarit 50mm f1.5 is the successor to the Xenon 50mm f1.5 and later evolved into the Summilux f1.4. It occupies a somewhat prototype position in Leica's lens lineup, with a small number of Summarit 50mm f1.4 lenses also being produced during this transitional period.

At wide open aperture, the lens exhibits a dreamy softness and bokeh. Stopping down by 1 or 2 stops significantly improves contrast and resolution, transforming the image into a much sharper rendering. Further stopping down leads to a crisp, highly detailed image. In recent years, the unique rendering of older lenses like this one has gained popularity.

However, many Summarits suffer from poor glass quality, making it difficult to find a satisfying copy. This particular lens, however, is in excellent condition with a beautiful exterior and exceptionally clean glass for a Summarit. You’ll be able to experience its original rendering at its best.

This item was originally sold by our shop and has now returned to us after being carefully used by its previous owner.
Its appearance remains unchanged from when it was last sold and shows virtually no signs of use. The beauty of the plating, especially around the front rim and the various rings, is truly exceptional. It is hard to believe that nearly 70 years have passed since its manufacture. Early-type Summarit examples in such outstanding cosmetic condition are extremely rare.
A full overhaul was carried out in 2025. Thanks to careful servicing, both the aperture and helicoid remain exceptionally smooth in operation and are a pleasure to use. There is none of the gritty or stiff feel often associated with Summarit lenses. Focusing is accurate, and rangefinder coupling works perfectly.
The glass shows extremely slight balsam separation and coating deterioration only at the very edge of the middle element, as well as one or two very faint cleaning marks on the front element. None of these have any noticeable effect on actual photographs. Considering that Summarits often show more pronounced cleaning marks, the glass of this lens is in very fine condition. Results from practical shooting tests were excellent.
Original front and rear caps are included.
