Carl Zeiss Planar 55mm f1.4 for Contarex, black finish. It was sold from 1961 to 1970. At the time, it was considered a very expensive lens, yet 8,275 examples were produced, making it the third most-produced Contarex lens after the Planar 50mm f2 and the Distagon 35mm f4.
Optical construction is 5 groups, 7 elements. Minimum focusing distance is 45 cm. The lens alone weighs approximately 370 g as measured.
The Planar is well known for its beautiful rendering. With the wide range of mount adapters available today, this lens can be enjoyed not only on Contarex bodies but also on modern mirrorless cameras.

There are some minor signs of use, but overall it shows little wear and remains in very nice cosmetic condition.
Fully overhauled in February 2026. The aperture, helicoid, and all controls now operate very smoothly.
There is some spot-like coating wear on the front element, but it should have little to no effect on actual images. All other glass surfaces have been cleaned and are clear.
The original UV filter, front and rear caps, and a hood for 50–135mm lenses are included.
